Nan’s Natural Remedies

We’re in the middle of cold, flu, and covid season right now. While we obviously recommend talking to your doctor and following their advice FIRST, there’s also natural remedies we carry in the barn that can help supplement your immunity and are just good for you in general!

This powerful combination not only tastes good but is so beneficial for your immune system! Herbal tea or green tea is full of antioxidants and this lemon ginger variety from MEM tea also has the added benefits of anti-inflammatory ginger. Honey is the rockstar of this duo, containing an abundance of immune-boosting antioxidants as well as health-promoting plant compounds called polyphenols. And it also makes everything taste delicious!. We carry a selection from Hudson Hives that has something for everyone, but our current favorite is this Goldenrod honey. Honey also helps to soothe coughs and sore throats, and is so easy to incorporate into your diet by mixing it into hot tea.

Elderberry is one of the top natural immune-boosting items that we can recommend. It has numerous health benefits, including but not limited to: aiding digestion, cardiovascular protection, clearing up respiratory issues, boosting immunity, helping to stabilize blood sugar, improving your skin, enhancing bone health, aiding in weight loss, anti-carcinogenic properties, keeping things regular (if you know what we mean), and anti-aging. This sounds pretty incredible to us. Seattle Elderberry Co has this super fun DIY elderberry syrup kit for you to make at home. Not only will you get the satisfaction of making this powerful supplement yourself but you can keep it in your fridge for up to three weeks to have on hand!

Prevention is KEY, and all of us should be carrying hand sanitizer with us to kill those germs before they get a chance to do their germy thing. Our current favorite hand sanitizer is this spray version from Everyone. Spray hand sanitizer is so much less drying and so much easier to apply than regular, and this product comes in multiple delicious scents like lavender, citrus, and mint! We recommend buying multiple and keeping one in your car, one in your house and one on your person!
